He’s led teams to victory, coached athletes to the NBA, and made Michigan sports history. But on June 16, Greg Kampe steps off the court and into the spotlight for something even bigger – supporting local youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Michigan.

We are proud to welcome Coach Kampe as our 2025 Benefit Dinner speaker!

A Coaching Legend

Coach Kampe has been the head coach of Oakland University’s men’s basketball team for over 40 years, making him the longest-tenured NCAA Division I coach in the country.

In that time, he’s led his teams to:

  • 4 NCAA tournaments
  • 8 postseason appearances
  • 8 20-win seasons
  • And most recently – a massive upset victory over No. 3 ranked Kentucky in the 2024 NCAA Tournament

Kampe’s players have gone on to the NBA, made headlines on ESPN, and set national records – but it’s not just about the wins.

“We try to do things the right way.”

That’s how Coach Kampe describes his mission.

His focus isn’t just basketball – it’s about building strong, capable people. Under his leadership, Oakland players have earned academic honors, become community leaders, and launched successful careers after college and pro ball. He’s coached more than 30 players who’ve gone on to play professionally.

Giving Back

Coach Kampe’s impact goes far beyond the hardwood.

He’s helped raise over $500,000 for the American Cancer Society, supported the Boys & Girls Clubs, volunteered overseas with U.S. troops, and uplifts organizations that serve kids in need.

In 2016, he was honored with the Sparky Anderson Community Excellence Award, recognizing his deep commitment to making a difference off the court.

Why This Night Matters

Benefit Dinner isn’t just a fundraiser. It’s a celebration of what happens when our community joins together to ignite the potential of local youth.

Coach Kampe knows the power of mentorship – and he’s lived it for more than 40 years. BBBS is excited to welcome him to our 48th annual event to help us raise critical funds to match more local youth with mentors who will ignite their potential.
