Meet the Team: Elizabeth Meimers

Meet Elizabeth Meimers, one of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ (BBBS) Mentoring Relationship Specialists (MRS). As an MRS, Elizabeth checks in with Bigs, Littles, and their families every month to make sure everyone in a match is happy, safe, and getting the support they need. She also provides ideas for and plans match activities, like our annual Back to School celebration.

BIG CONNECTIONS

“I’ve always known about Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Elizabeth says, “so I was really excited when I saw they had an opening.” Elizabeth’s mom had shared positive experiences with her from volunteering at Bowl for Kids’ Sake, and her uncle, who lives in California, was a Big in college.

He loved it. I think they’re still in contact. It’s been probably 20 or 30 years. He had a really good relationship with the parents, and his Little Brother. He’s really happy I’m working here now.

Elizabeth knew Afton – another MRS – from a previous job.

“I was able to talk to her, and she said nothing but good things about the agency.”

“I love what I get to do,” continues Elizabeth, “and the fact that I get to help people, kids, my community. I really love that. I love the work environment as well. It’s very positive and everyone’s working together and trying to make things better, which is amazing. My coworkers are amazing. It’s just a really positive place to work.”

ATHLETIC TALENT AND ENCOURAGEMENT

Elizabeth spends much of her free time exercising and spending time outside, where she goes for walks and plays tennis, volleyball, and pickleball. She also loves to travel and knows how to juggle!

Elizabeth aims to “bring new ideas, positivity, and helpfulness” to the BBBSMI team. Her involvement with BBBSMI, as well as the experiences of her mom and uncle, have made her incredibly enthusiastic toward new mentors.

Elizabeth’s words to potential Bigs are an excited, “Do it!”

“I’ve been here just over a year and I’ve heard nothing but good things. There are so many activities [matches] can do, and it’s just so rewarding.”
