Meet the Team: Tanisha Thompson
Meet Tanisha Thompson, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ (BBBS) Senior Administrative Assistant. Tanisha oversees the day-to-day operations of human resources, facilities, and information technology.
“I work closely on the HR side of things, helping to streamline procedures, post positions, and conduct phone interviews. My impact is a little bit behind the scenes,” Tanisha explains. “My hope is that we are hiring good people who want to stay and grow with the agency.”
NEW CAREERS, FAMILIAR EXPERIENCES
Tanisha met Regina Miller, Director of Corporate Operations, at one of her children’s basketball games, where she told her more about the agency. But Tanisha had known about Big Brothers Big Sisters for a while.
“My best friend and her kids participated with Big Brothers Big Big Sisters, so I always thought it was a good program. They are no longer Littles, but I saw the impact they had. They had a really good experience.”
AN INTROVERT AT HEART
Tanisha thinks her coworkers might be surprised by how extroverted she can be when she’s with people she knows well and is comfortable around, as she tends to be very introverted.
“I’m really shy at first, but I won’t shut up after a while. ‘Proceed with caution’ is what I would say,” she laughs.
SELF-CARE
In her free time, Tanisha likes to spend time with her village, spend time on the internet, and read – a lot. She loves fiction and is currently making her way through the Stephanie Plum novels by Janet Evanovich. She also loves to travel! “I’m planning a trip to New York with my youngest; it is her dream vacation, so it’s very exciting,” she shares.
EVERYONE BENEFITS
Tanisha loves the opportunity to “give back to our community, and just help kids.” The experience of her best friend’s children encourages her to advocate for new mentors.
“It would be beneficial not only for the Little, but for them too, I think. They would get something out of it as well.”
