Kick into Action – The Case for More Mentors.
Before he was a soccer star, David Beckham was the son of a hairdresser and kitchen installer. Both of his parents were huge Manchester United fans. They frequently traveled from London to the town where the team played to watch home matches. It was through his parents’ love of Manchester United and the game of football (yes the original football), that David kicked his goals into successful fruition.
Even with his parents’ positive and caring influence Beckham
still benefited from the mentoring provided by his future Manchester United
youth coach, Eric Harrison.
“He taught us how to play, how to never give up, how important it was to win your individual battles and what we needed to do to play for Manchester United Football Club,” David said when speaking of his past coach.
It’s no coincidence that so many professional
athletes have parents, family members, or community members that supported them
and provided guidance. YOU could be that person to one of the Littles on our
waiting list. Advocate for our youth whether it’s spreading the message of Big
Brothers Big Sisters, donating, or becoming a Big yourself. The only way we
ignite the potential of youth, is by sparking conversations about mentorship.
Whether you coach youth soccer, are part of an over thirty

Match” with Big Brothers Big Sisters on Saturday, December 14th
from 7:30AM to 12PM.
