Meet the Match: David and Myles

Every child has potential and could benefit from having an additional role model to help ignite it. When you volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, like David does, you can be that spark. Sign up as a Big today and you can help a child (Little) fully realize the potential they’ve had all along.

Congratulations to Little Brother Myles and Big Brother David on their new mentoring friendship! They are a Community Match, meaning this mentor/mentee pair spends time together in the community for at least two hours, twice a month.

SCIENCE AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Myles and David met in February. Myles’ mom, Contrina, knows David through work. After spending time getting to know him, she knew he would make an excellent mentor for her son. After Myles and David were enrolled in the program, our team agreed that they would make a great match!

David is a physical therapist who enjoys spending time with his wife and playing Magic the Gathering. He loves reading, gardening, and spending time outdoors. David was motivated to become a mentor because he wanted to be a positive role model to a child who might need it.

Myles is an 11-year-old who loves riding his bike, science, and milkshakes! His mom enrolled him in the program so he would have an additional person in his life to look up to and spend time with.

David and Myles’ shared love for science and being outdoors makes them a great pair!

INTENTIONAL MATCHING

Potential mentor/mentee matches are all thought through carefully. Each Little/Big pair has something in common, which acts as a foundation for them to build their friendship on. We call this “intentional matching.” This focus and care help ensure match quality and longevity.

In David and Myles’ match, that foundation is their love for spending time outdoors and science. Paired with their shared love for games, they are sure to have a great time together! Learn more about “intentional matching” and how each Little/Big pair is created here.

GOALS

Big Brothers Big Sisters asks its matches to define goals they would like to accomplish as part of their match. Each match discusses new goals annually.

David and Myles identified the following goals:

  1. Developing self-confidence and social skills
  2. Positive decision-making and considering consequences

Congratulations, David and Myles! We are so happy to support your match, and can’t wait to hear about all of the fun things you do together!
