COVID-19 Update: Indoor Match Meetings Allowed

Beginning October 1, 2020, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) will allow Bigs and Littles to resume meeting indoors.

During the summer our matches have been allowed to meet in person but only outside. With the change in season we recognize that some of our Bigs and Littles want the option to meet indoors. BBBS is now providing the option for matches to meet indoors while taking precautions to ensure health and safety. BBBS will continue to support matches who are meeting exclusively virtually, matches meeting in person but only outdoors, and matches who meet in person and indoors, in accordance with our updated COVID-19 expectations.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Big and Little matches have continued to stay connected during the past 6 months. Matches have been very creative in maintaining their one-on-one mentoring relationship during the pandemic. We have Bigs and Littles who have met over Zoom to cook with one another and share a meal together. Some matches have been meeting regularly online to play games together and we even have some matches who switched to being pen pals and have been writing “real” letters to each other. Our staff has provided additional support to matches and their families and will continue to provide virtual only and socially distant activity ideas to our matches.

BBBS remains committed to supporting the health and safety of Bigs, Littles, and their families. We encourage everyone to continue to make the best decisions for themselves and their families, to stay informed, follow guidelines from the State of Michigan, and follow the Center for Disease Control’s recommendations for preventing the spread of illness.

Bigs, Littles and their families, can contact their Mentoring Relationship Specialist for requirements and procedures related to resuming indoor meetings.
