Meet the Match: Lucas and Bill

Congratulations to Little Brother Lucas and Big Brother Bill on their new mentoring friendship! They are a Community Match, which means this mentor/mentee pair spends time together in the community for at least two hours, twice per month.

Sports and music

Lucas and Bill met in mid-August. Their shared love for sports and being outdoors made them a natural pair.

Bill, a regional manager at Stemco, became a Big because he loves to provide guidance and positive influence to youth. A father of two adult men, Bill spent time coaching their soccer teams when they were young. He admires the carefreeness, energy, and excitement youth have, and is looking forward to seeing that in Lucas.

Lucas, an 8 year-old athlete, loves sports and science. He wanted to be in the program because he thought it would be fun to have someone extra in his life to play games and spend time with. Lucas, who wants to be an artist when he grows up, loves being active and sharing his newest interests with anyone who wants to hear about it.

During their initial meeting, Lucas and Bill hit it off immediately. They learned quickly after they met that not only do they both love trying new things, but they also share a love for guitar!

Intentional Matching

Potential mentor/mentee matches are all thought through carefully. Each Little/Big pair has something in common, which acts as a foundation for them to build their friendship on. We call this “intentional matching.” This focus and care helps ensure match quality and longevity.

In Lucas and Bill’s match, that foundation is their love for sports, being active, and spending time outdoors.

GOALS

Big Brothers Big Sisters asks its matches to define goals they would like to accomplish as part of their match. Each match discusses new goals annually.

Lucas and Bill identified the following goals:

  • Help Lucas with his self-confidence
  • Work on Lucas’s academic performance, particularly in math
  • Help Lucas become more of a leader

Congratulations, Lucas and Bill! We are so happy to support your match, and can’t wait to hear about all of the fun things you do together!
