Meet the Match: Rebecca and Alyssa

Congratulations to Little Sister Rebecca and Big Sister Alyssa on their new mentoring friendship! They are a Community Match, which means this mentor/mentee pair spends time together in the community for at least two hours, twice per month.

Busy Bees!

Rebecca and Alyssa met in August. Their shared love for staying busy and crafting makes them an excellent pair!

Alyssa, who works in HR at Welch & Associates, was looking for a way to give back to her community. When she heard about Big Brothers Big Sisters, she knew it was the right fit for her. Alyssa is thrilled to be matched with such a fun-loving Little Sister.

Rebecca, a 7-year-old 2nd grader, had been waiting since November 2021 to meet her mentor. She wants to be a doctor, a veterinarian, or a ballerina when she grows up. This energetic Little Sister wanted to be in the program because her older brother is also a Little, so she knew that it was a great time!

During their initial meeting, Rebecca was so excited that she could not stop smiling at her new Big Sister. Alyssa and Rebecca both grew up in the Van Buren area, and are looking forward to going to new places together.

Intentional Matching

Potential mentor/mentee matches are all thought through carefully. Each Little/Big pair has something in common, which acts as a foundation for them to build their friendship on. We call this “intentional matching.” This focus and care helps ensure match quality and longevity.

In Rebecca and Alyssa’s match, that foundation is their love for staying busy, board games, and crafts. Paired with their equally high-energy personalities, Rebecca and Alyssa are sure to have a great time together! Learn more about “intentional matching” and how each Little/Big pair is created here.

Goals

Big Brothers Big Sisters asks its matches to define goals they would like to accomplish as part of their match. Each match discusses new goals annually.

Rebecca and Alyssa identified the following goals:

  1. Work on healthier eating habits, like trying new foods
  2. Help Rebecca with her emotional well-being
  3. Work on school preparedness

Congratulations, Rebecca and Alyssa! We are so happy to support your match, and can’t wait to hear about all of the fun things you do together!
